LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- Texas Tech dealt Baylor a dose of reality.

Sonny Cumbie, the nation's leading passer, threw for 397 yards and five touchdowns as the Red Raiders routed the Bears, 42-17, in a Big 12 Conference contest.

Coming off last week's 35-34 overtime upset of Texas A&M, Baylor dropped its 35th straight Big 12 road contest and failed in a quest to win consecutive conference games for the first time.

It marked the second time Cumbie threw five TDs in a game as he also did it in a 70-10 rout of Nebraska on October 9. Texas Tech's Trey Haverty caught 11 passes for 158 yards, both career highs.

The Red Raiders (6-3, 4-2 Big 12 South) struggled to a 14-10 halftime lead as Cumbie was held to 132 yards and sacked four times. But Texas Tech broke it open in the second half.

Taurean Henderson rushed for 111 yards and a TD on 16 carries for the Red Raiders, who became bowl eligible for the 12th straight season.

Josh Bell completed 9-of-22 passes for just 83 yards for the Bears (3-6, 1-5 South), who took a 7-0 lead on Trent Shelton's 71-yard TD run 1:26 into the game.
