DALLAS (Ticker) -- Texas Tech and Southern Methodist were full of fight to start the season.

In a contest that featured a brawl at the end of the game, Texas Tech posted a 27-13 victory over Southern Methodist.

With a 27-13 lead in the final minute, the Red Raiders attempted several passes into the Mustangs' end zone, including one from the SMU 4 as time expired.

The antics sent SMU coach Phil Bennett charging toward Red Raiders coach Mike Leach at the game's conclusion. What followed was a brawl that lasted several minutes at midfield.

Before the fisticuffs, Sonny Cumbie threw for 470 yards and four touchdowns for the Red Raiders, who pulled away in the second half after holding just a 6-3 lead at the half.

Cumbie, who completed 40-of-66 passes, led scoring drives of 78, 90 and 76 yards in the second half, capping each with a TD pass.

Cedrick Dorsey scored on a four-yard run in the fourth quarter for the Mustangs.
