SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- Top-seeded Arizona can advance to the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season when it faces No. 9 Gonzaga in the second round of the West Region.

Arizona (26-3) advanced with an 80-51 rout of Vermont in the first round on Thursday. Salim Stoudamire scored 18 points and Rick Anderson added 13 as the Wildcats built a huge lead and were able to rest key players in preparation for Saturday.

"Breakdown tape is already ready for Gonzaga," Arizona coach Lute Olson said after the game. "We want our guys to be focused immediately on what needs to be done."

No starter for the Wildcats played more than 29 minutes. Center Channing Frye had 12 points and 12 rebounds in just 24 minutes.

The Wildcats have won 11 out of 12 games and improved their record to 11-4 as a top seed. The last time Arizona was top-seeded, it lost a second-round game here at the Huntsman Center to Wisconsin.

Gonzaga (24-8) went to three straight "Sweet 16s" from 1999-2001 before losing in the first round last season. The Bulldogs improved their all-time NCAA Tournament record to 8-5 with a 74-69 victory over Cincinnati on Thursday.

Ronny Turiaf had a big night at the foul line and finished with 22 points and 16 rebounds. Turiaf made 16-of-22 foul shots as the Bulldogs shot 76 percent at the line.

Junior forward Cory Violette came off the bench after missing Gonzaga's West Coast Conference championship game with a sprained ankle. Violette made 6-of-9 shots for 14 points.

The Wildcats posted a 101-87 victory over the Bulldogs on November 29, 2000 in the only previous meeting between the schools. Blake Stepp led Gonzaga with 21 points.

The winner will face Illinois or Notre Dame next Thursday in Anaheim, California.
