LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- Bobby Knight looks to advance to the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament for the first time in nearly two decades Friday night as Texas Tech hosts San Diego State.

Knight made 24 NCAA tournament appearances with Indiana and made the NCAA Tournament in his first season with Texas Tech. But he has also enjoyed success in the NIT, winning the championship in 1979 and finishing second in 1985.

The Red Raiders gave Knight his first postseason win since 1999 as Andre Emmett led four players in double figures with 18 points in Wednesday's 66-54 first-round victory over Nevada.

Knight is facing a familiar face in Aztecs coach Steve Fisher. Fisher coached at Michigan from 1989-1997 and was 6-10 against Knight before a 75-63 on January 6.

San Diego State posted its first Division I postseason win in six tries as it opened the NIT with Wednesday's 67-62 overtime triumph over Santa Barbara.

Tony Bland, a transfer from Syracuse, scored 17 points, made a layup to force overtime and capped a 12-0 run in overtime with a free throw.
